knitted shawls

We are a small group of knitters in my church that knits for Out of the Cold (Homeless Men and Women in West Toronto) during the winter months. We are very small 'tight-knit' group known as the knit-wits. Yet in our 4-years we have produced approximately 150 hats, 70 scarves and 50 pairs of mitts/gloves!

We started with $70 worth of wool - a discounted batch from our local Zellers, and now we get donations of wool from within our community and our ladies always go to garage and yard sales looking for more to be added to the yarn cupboard. During the Spring/Summer last year we started making prayer shawls - these knitted shawls were made and prayed over for their healing powers of warmth and prayer to be transmitted to the individual to help them get over an illness or loss. We have made about 25 shawls.

I just wanted to share our story - perhaps as an inspiration.
